The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, AMMC, under the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has directed the demolition of 24 illegally built two-storey structures located on a waterway in the Guzape district of the capital.
According to NAN, AMMC Coordinator, Felix Obuah gave the demolition order on Monday during an inspection tour of several areas in Abuja, accompanied by other council officials.
Obuah stated that the structures in question were built by Cityscape Estate on Plot 4851 without obtaining the required approvals.
The AMMC coordinator condemned the construction as a blatant breach of planning regulations.
He assured that the structures would be removed to serve as a deterrent to others.
“We have mobilised equipment, materials, and machines on-site. These illegal buildings erected without approval will go down,” he stressed.
“Any other building without proper approval, especially those constructed on waterways or road corridors, will be demolished.
“It is no longer business as usual; we are committed to restoring Abuja to its original master plan,” he said.
Obuah cautioned that any AMMC official involved in the approval or oversight of the illegal buildings would be disciplined, emphasizing that the council would no longer tolerate negligence or acts of sabotage.
He stated that the AMMC had granted a two-week grace period, at the developer’s request, to allow for the voluntary removal of all violations.
Kadiri Obaidi, the developer, acknowledged the breaches and took responsibility, attributing part of the unauthorized construction to actions taken by subscribers.
