Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Recommences Before Abuja Court – Asaba Metro News

The trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), resumed on Friday at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The Judge Presiding over the suit, Justice James Omotosho had earlier granted the Federal Government’s request to allow witnesses testify behind screens.
According to a report by CHANNELS, at the hearing, Defence Counsel Kanu Agabi told the court he had 22 members on his team, but the judge said he would only approve the 13 listed. Four senior advocates, Audu Nunghe, Joseph Akubo, Emeka Etiaba, and Onyechi Ikpeazu, have joined Kanu’s defence team.
Kanu faces terrorism and treasonable felony charges, originally instituted in 2015 after his arrest in Lagos. The case has experienced significant delays, preventing the prosecution from presenting witnesses and exhibits until now.
The case initially included four co-defendants, but in February 2018, the trial judge, Binta Nyako, severed the trial, separating Kanu, who had fled Nigeria, from the other defendants. Kanu was rearrested in Kenya in June 2021.
