Football fans in Abuja and Uyo were treated to an immersive Premier League experience on Sunday, May 5, as MTN Nigeria hosted simultaneous watch parties in both cities, bringing together supporters from across the football divide for an afternoon of top-flight English football.
Held at Farm City in Wuse, Abuja, and Pyramid Lounge in Uyo, the events offered fans the opportunity to watch four high-stakes EPL matches live in a festive and communal atmosphere. The screenings included key EPL fixtures, including Chelsea’s 3–1 victory over Liverpool, Brentford’s 4–3 edge over Manchester United, Brighton’s 1–1 stalemate with Newcastle, and a tense 1–1 draw between West Ham and Tottenham.
The atmosphere across both locations was electric, with attendees donning club colours, engaging in lively chants, and participating in half-time trivia and games. MTN added to the spectacle with giveaways of branded merchandise, data bundles, and other fan rewards, reinforcing the brand’s ongoing commitment to enhancing customer experiences beyond the screen.
Speaking on the activation, MTN Nigeria’s PR Manager, Lakinbofa Goodluck, said the initiative was part of the brand’s broader strategy to connect with Nigerians through their passion for football. “This is about more than just watching a game. It’s about community, identity, and the shared joy that football brings. Through these events, we’re reinforcing our promise to be present where our customers are most passionate,” he said.
MTN is currently the official broadcast sponsor of the English Premier League in Nigeria and a key partner of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The brand is also investing in grassroots football through sponsorship of the Nationwide League One (NLO) and the MTN CHAMPS athletics programme.
As the season nears its climax, Sunday’s watch parties served as a timely reminder of football’s unifying power and of the growing role brands like MTN play in amplifying that connection across regions.
