Some aggrieved stakeholders in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) have petitioned the national chairman of the SDP over the ongoing congress of the party, calling for its cancellations.
In a letter addressed to the national chairman of the party and made available to Blueprint, they complained about lack of transparency in the Congress.
The letter was signed by Hon. Taye Ojo FCT SDP publicity secretary Esiemokhai Agapitus, AMAC caucus SDP FCT, and Ali Muhammed Saliu, chairman, Gui Ward.
Others are Hosea Daniel chairman, Jiwa ward, comrade Osaruwense Uwagboe Bwari Area caucus leader, Hon. David Umenbiyo Chairman, Gwagwa Ward and Barthy okhipo Kabusa ward chairman.
The statement reads in part: “We write as stakeholders and committed members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to register our strong protest against the ongoing Congress elections and the ones purportedly held on 1st April, 2025, and to demand their immediate cancellation on the following justifiable grounds:
” Lack of Transparency in Sale of Nomination Forms: There was no official communication or public release of information regarding the commencement, process, or deadline for the sale of nomination forms. This deprived interested party members of the opportunity to purchase and submit their forms, thereby undermining fairness and inclusivity.
” Absence of Notice for Congress Elections: No formal notice was issued to notify party members about the dates, venues, modalities, or guidelines for the Congress elections. This blatant disregard for due process and the party’s constitutional provisions effectively excluded the participation of a majority of eligible stakeholders.
“Disenfranchisement of Party Members: The conduct of the elections without prior notification and transparency has disenfranchised several loyal and eligible members of the party from exercising their civic and political rights, which is a direct violation of democratic principles and the SDP’s commitment to internal democracy.
“Demand for Immediate Suspension and Cancellation: In view of the above irregularities, we hereby demand the immediate suspension of the ongoing Congress elections and the cancellation of all Congresses held so far, including those conducted on 1st of May 2025. These actions are necessary to restore the credibility of the process and uphold the integrity of our great party.
“We urge the National Working Committee under your leadership to take swift and decisive action in the interest of justice, fairness, and party unity.”
