Senator Ireti Kingibe has expressed deep concern over the continued non-payment of entitlements to primary school teachers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), urging the Minister, Nyesom Wike, the Area Councils, and other relevant authorities to act swiftly to resolve the issue.
In a statement issued on her Twitter page on Friday, Kingibe said it was unacceptable that teachers under the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) were being forced to protest on the streets due to the prolonged delay in receiving their promotion arrears, leave grants, and peculiar allowances — some dating back to 2021.

“This is not just an administrative failure; it is a moral failure,” she said.

The lawmaker, who represents the FCT in the Senate on the platform of Labour Party, emphasised the critical role teachers play in shaping the nation and stressed that they must be treated with dignity and respect.
“Teachers are not beggars. They are nation-builders,” she said. “Our children deserve quality education, and that starts with motivated, supported, and fairly treated teachers.”

Kingibe pledged to use her office to advocate for the immediate resolution of the matter and said she would continue to engage the necessary authorities until the rights of the affected teachers are fully restored.
“This situation cannot be allowed to persist,” she stated. “I urge all relevant offices to act now before this issue causes deeper harm to the educational fabric of the FCT.”
